Salt Spring is safe. Crime by big city standards it is almost nonexistent. We do have a full detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and they are here to...hum.....well last year a rototiller went missing... it was in the local paper, the Driftwood. Are you having a hard time finding a family Doctor? The reason is that 11 live here on the Salt Spring and we even have our own Hospital (Lady Minto) where you can get first class service. There are also dentists, physiotherapists and all other health practitioners you might need. Although it's part of Canada and uses Canadian currency, Salt Spring also has its own currency, Salt Spring Dollars, which trade at par with the Canadian dollar and are accepted at many of the businesses on Salt Spring. We also have two chartered banks, a credit union, two large grocery stores, and stores for almost everything else you might want. We also have tennis courts a swimming pool, community services, schools K-12 and all the urban amenities with a special rural flair (organic goat cheese anyone?) and zest.
