Galiano Island is named after the Spanish exploer Dionisio Alcalá-Galiano who sailed the area in 1792.  It is in the Gulf Island chain between Vancouver Island and the mainland. The island is very long (about 30km or 20miles) and skinny (about 2km or a 1 1/2miles). There are about 1000 full time resedents on Galiano Island.

Note some properties may appear twice on the Galiano Island real estate mls. There is an overlap of jurisdiction on both Mayne and Galiano Island. Some house are listed with the Vancouver real estate board. Some are listed on the Victoria real estate board and some are listed with both boards. 

The west side of the island faces the Georgia Strait and to the east is Trincomali Channel. The pass on the north end of the Island is Polier pass and Active pass is on the south side.

Galiano gets great ferry service from Vancouver.
