Mayne Island is a quaint rural island in the Gulf Islands chain in southern British Columbia, Canada.

The Royal Navy's Captain George Richards sailing HMS Plumper surveyed and named the island after lieutenant Richard Charles Mayne in 1857.
During the Gold Rush miners gathered on Mayne Island before rowing across Georgia Strait to the mainland of BC in search of their fortunes. The earliest homesteaders registered land claims in the Miners Bay area in 1859.
Miners Bay on Active Pass is the island's commercial centre. Village Bay is where the BC Ferries terminal is with ferries arriving from Vancouver, Victoria or other gulf island.
Mayne Island real estate is very well priced when compared to Vancouver, Victora or Salt Spring. |
