One of my all time favorite Canadian west coast Authors is Micheal Kluckner

He writes about the cities and town in BC and how they where developed. He has some great perspectives on development and lack of planning. When you look at pictures, from the 1950, of some of the small BC town where so nice. Now they look like parking lots with box stores. If you live in a place without boxes be thankful and don't let them in. You can order Paving Paradise here.

I found another book at the recycle center (best free book store on Saltspring) the other day and just read it last night. I really dint think much about it until I started to get into it. The book is called "never chop your rope" by Joe Garner. I am not a logger and had no I deal how fascinating the development of the coastal logging business was. It is packed with Salt Spring connections and how HR Macmillan started during world war 1 selling spruce from BC to Europe for airplane construction. The panama canal made it all possible.

It is always interesting to see Canadian west coast history from other perspectives. I have a newly gained respect for the early loggers. It is a very well written book.

Cheers
Scott
